Waiting for payout

My father was working for pick n pay, then he was sick frm last year february and hospitalised ever till september same year... they ampulate his left leg in 30th of august, so he didnt return to work because of his condition.
He reported everything to his manager, giving him doctors certificate and feedback about his health.
Early this year he went back to his manager in pick n pay to find out about his compensation funds or UIF, but his manager told him he cant help him... my father worked for pnp for many years
I WANT TO ASK YOU IF IT IS POSSIBLE??? PLEASE HELP ME
