Wii U's reserved before the sale even starts

I went to CNA Pavillion today to buy a Wii U Premium Pack Black 32GB console only to be told that it was sold out by the sales person in the gaming section. A couple of minutes later another customer walks in and gets one. How is that possible if all were sold out? What's the point of advertising an item only to have the item reserved by people before the sale actually starts.
