VODACOM - HEAD OFFICE
Formal Complaint and Request for Compensation – Fraudulent Accounts Opened in My Name - EC-28TA-2JEBI2

Security

Dear Vodacom Head Office,

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint and to request compensation for the severe inconvenience, financial loss, and reputational damage I have suffered because of fraudulent activity conducted in my name under Vodacom.

In 2023, I noticed multiple debit orders being deducted from my bank account without my authorization. I immediately reported this to the fraud department at my bank, and the matter was addressed on their side. After these debit orders stopped, I assumed the issue had been resolved, as no further debits occurred. At that stage, I did not approach Vodacom directly.

In January 2026, I was shocked to see a new debit order deducted from my account. This came as a complete surprise, particularly because I do not have — and have never had — a Vodacom contract in my name. I purchase all my devices outright and do not make use of contract services. This incident occurred at an extremely inconvenient and stressful time and has caused significant disruption to my life.

I am deeply concerned about how Vodacom allows contracts to be opened without proper verification. How is it possible for contracts to be approved without a signed agreement or a copy of my identity document? The fact that a name and ID number alone appear to be sufficient is highly unprofessional and raises serious concerns about Vodacom’s internal controls and customer data protection.

As a direct result of this fraud, I incurred multiple additional costs with my bank, including fees to reverse debit orders and to block further unauthorized deductions. Beyond the financial impact, this situation has had severe consequences on my credit profile. My credit record has been negatively affected to the extent that I am currently unable to qualify for a home loan. This is extremely distressing, especially considering that I do not legitimately hold any accounts or contracts in my name.

This experience has significantly damaged my trust in Vodacom as a service provider. My family, including my parents, have been loyal Vodacom customers for many years, and this incident has caused a substantial dent in that long-standing relationship.

I respectfully request:
• A full investigation into how these fraudulent contracts were approved
• Written confirmation that all fraudulent accounts have been permanently closed
• Correction of my credit record with all relevant credit bureaus
• Compensation for the financial losses, inconvenience, and reputational damage I have suffered

The reference number is EC-28TA-2JEBI2

I trust that Vodacom will treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves and respond promptly with a resolution.

Yours sincerely,

Chenelle Naicker
