Poor Service from ADT

My alarm system has been faulty since October 2013. I called ADT to request a service agent inspect and repair.
- Service agent visited premises on 11 Oct 2013 (working hours), didn't repair problem
- numerous calls to ADT to get agent back, mostly ignored
- eventually booked agent to come back for repair in December, cancelled by ADT, because sales had to first provide a quote for the repair
- I eventually had the fault fixed by an external contractor for half the ADT quoted price in January

Given the appalling service from ADT, I gave notice to terminate my contract.
ADT informed me that I have a 24 month contract, and would have to pay termination fee of R1, 800.
I was not informed of the 24 month duration of contract when I signed up in 2012, which is in breach of the CPA.

I can't believe that ADT would now wish to charge a termination fee of providing such poor service over a 3 month period, and when they couldn't fulfil their contract obligations of alarm monitoring, with the system being faulty.

ADT should waive the termination fee given that their lack of service has resulted in my termination of the contract.
