Contracts mean nothing

In 2011 a consultant from ADT had spoken to me about installing a new alarm system in my home. He had assured me that the alarm system would be owned and no installation fee would be charged. I had signed the contract in the presence of the consultant and arranged for the installation. Two years later I had contacted the call center to suspend the armed response as the property is being leased and the tennant does not want to take up the armed response service. i was told by the agent that the system is indeed an owned one. She advised me that i should send a cancellation instruction via e-mail, which i had done. after not receiving a response i contacted the call center once again and spoke to Eve who had advised that she had many e-mails and assured me that i will receive an acknowledgement shortly. Upon receipt of the confirmation of cancellation, a letter attached stated that I needed to arrange for the Alarm unit to be be removed from the property since it was a rented one. At this point quite annoyed, i consulted my signed contract which clearly stated that the system is owned and a copy sent to Eve on the 09/12/2013. To date no response has been received.
