Charged for a full year, used one month

I have been an ADT customer for more than 8 years. I decided to cancel my service with them as other security companies are a lot cheaper. I phoned the contact centre to cancel my service and obtain my account balance. They informed me that I have to pay my radio and license fee for 2014 in November 2013. I informed them that I am cancelling my service and giving my 30 days notice. I was told that I still have to pay for the 2014 radio and licence fees. The radio and license fees are from November 2013 - November 2014. How can they charge me for a full year if I am only going to use it for my notice month November 2013?
I asked to speak to a supervisor - which was not available. They informed me that they will return my call. Still waiting.
