Unethical Practice

I was sold an ADT service contract and my ONE AND ONLY stipulation was that I could cancel this at any time as I am over 65 and have no job guarantee and my husband is retired and not working. The sales people ASSURED me this was OK.
Around June last year Vetus Schola came to promote their product at my work and I told them how in less than one year my rates had gone up by approximately R100. They asked me to bring my contract so they could look at it and confirmed that according to the copy I have that I could cancel at any time and they offered me their product at their pensioners rate which was just under half of what I was paying.
I then stopped my debit order with ADT and notified them that I was cancelling.
Since then my employer and her husband have had many conversations with ADT and sent many letters and supporting documentation to them. They asked ADT to send a copy of the contract proving that there was an official cancellation date on the contract - to date ADT have not been good enough to supply this.
They are now threatening me with BLACKLISTING if I don't pay them over R3000 (when I cancelled I gave them more than 30 days notice and owed them nothing) UNETHICAL?
