REFUSING TO GIVE DEPOSIT BACK

My daughter Shereen was renting an apartment from Craig Warren in New Germany. Her contract expired in October already and she was not made to sign a new one. She took it that it was now month to month so she gave notice at the beginning of November as she has resigned from her job. she paid her rent in advance at the beginning of November, thinking she would get her deposit back that she paid when she took the lease out. the landlord Craig is now refusing to give her deposit back. He did not come on Saturday to check the place before we left and said he would go there afterwards and check and deposit the money into her account. we left the place immaculately clean. He now says his not paying her because she made a hole in the roof. Shereen told him about the hole in August, when she got back from a weekend and found the veranda flooded with water. He ignored her and did not attempt to fix the roof. why would she make a hole in the roof? To prove what? The previous tenants said they also had a problem with him not paying them. Craig Warren needs to be exposed. He has not paid her yet but already has new tenants occupying the place and she just moved out on Saturday. Please help
