Keeping "contract fee" after we cancelled contract

After being stuck outside a rental property that we placed a deposit on, and getting no help, apart from being told to jump the fence to get in - we cancelled our rental contract with Chas Everitt - 5 day cooling off period and CPA law. The Boksburg branch of Chas Everitt, kept a "Contract fee" of R850. There was no contract, how could there be a contract fee. Please can Chas Everitt head office/branch pay me back the R850. It is daylight.
