They received my payment then refused to delive

I answered an advert on Gum tree for live chickens which were to be delivered. I e-mailed my order and confirmed via telephone. There is only an e-mail address and a mobile number for this company. The representative then e-mailed the cost and requested that I pay and then they would make arrangements to deliver - all very jolly and friendly. I was too trusting and naive and paid them. They e-mailed me and confirmed receipt of payment into their bank account but said that they could not deliver what I had ordered. They didn't give me an answer as to why they said they could deliver in the first place then when the money was received, say they can't deliver. I spoke to the so called boss who denied all knowledge of this and promised that I would be refunded. I sent them my banking details and I have phoned twice since that conversation and only received empty promises. Unfortunately the amount involved is too small to get a lawyer involved, these people know this and are banking on getting away with it.
