Nissan South Africa
No guarantee on bad workmanship!

Miscellaneous

I bought a Nissan NP200 from IC Nissan Benoni in 2012. At 200 000kms, i took the vehicle in to have the cam belt replaced, as per the recommendations from Nisssan which is every 100 000kms. Now, at 264 000kms, the cam belt has jumped a tooth or somehow changed the timing and bent valves on at least one, but probably two pistons.
When i took the vehicle in to IC Nissan, they say that it cant be their fault because the vehicle has done 64000kms since they did the work! What kind of gaurantee against bad workmanship is that then? I have vehicles which have never had the cam belt changed in the past, with hundreds of thousands of kms without problems. In fact, i believe that if they had not changed the cam belt, my NP200 would still be running fine today. After putting in a report to Nissan SA, they came back 4 days later to tell me exactly what the dealership said, with no additional information what so ever, and then still ask me if i want them to repair it for a minimum estimate of R12900.00!! No way will i ever buy a Nissan, and needless to say they wont be charging me to fix what i believe, are their mistakes.
