Denying customer monies for refund

I bought two universal charges using my debut card (please note, not a credit card), a normal cheque card whee every transaction processed, funds are debited immediately from your current or savings account. I returned the goods to the store for a refund on 31 December 2013, the gentleman who assisted me, marlon, refused to give me cash for the goods returned and insisted that he needs to process the refund to the card. Before the transaction, I told him numerous times that he cannot refund a debit card via the merchant machine, I then let him process the transaction, I told him if the funds are not credited to my account I am coming back to the store. He agreed and said that should this be the case, I can just bring my bank statement to prove that it wasn't credited and he would refund me my R298. On Friday the 3rd January I took my bank statements to him and he still refused to refund me. Please note that I returned their goods and to date I still don't have my money. I am then sent away and told that I must come back on 7January as the transaction takes seven days. On the 31st, I was not advised it would take seven days.
