No cash refund on item bought with debit card

I've returned an item bought with debit card (i.e. cash sale). But cashier handled it as a Credit Card purchase, whereby 'reversing' the transaction on my debit card. When querying not receiving the refund in cash, the store manager, Mr Abrahams said 'I promise you it will show on your bank account immediately'. He also committed to phoning me the following day to confirm that the transaction was reversed on my cheque account.

Needless to say neither of the 2 promises realised. I also tried to phone Mr Price Sport Centurion Lifestyle Centre NUMEROUS times throughout the day - BUT NO ANSWER. In fact, while I was in store with the whole refund exercise - I saw the manager just taking the phone off the hook when it rang.

How do I get any feedback in this regard when no one answers the phone and they do not phone you as they promised to do???

I can imagine I'll have to waste time and money driving to the store again to follow-up - but even so have no confidence that this issue will be resolved.

Bottom line is - how can they handle a debit card transaction as a credit card one? And then not even realise that is what they are doing.
