Paid deposit for couch and have no feedback

I have a friend that I work with, who ordered a couch from these people. Firstly the lady in complaint was late for their appointment, was not organized and did not have all the samples for them to choose from. They still went ahead and ordered there couch as it was in there budget, even though they were in two minds about doing so through this company due to the lack of interest in there purchase. My friend put down her deposit of X amount and then emailed the woman from the company asking for some kind of feedback about whether the couch order had been processed or started manufacturing. She then replied with a nasty attitude towards my friend stating that they have too many clients and cannot keep everyone up to date. That seems rather ridiculous as every customer has put down a deposit, spent their money the least this woman can do is follow up with some kind of feedback to these people so they know there money was well spent and hasn't been and run off with, without their couch ever arriving or maybe only in 6 months' time. Her advice is that anyone who wants to spend money with these people should stay far away and rather spend the extra money somewhere else.
