REFUSAL TO PAY CLAIM WITH NO EXPLANATION

My membership of Discovery came to an end 30 Nov 2012, as I left the employment of the company at which I was then working. On the 27th of November, I submitted a claim for replacement reading glasses as the pair I was using then broke and could not be repaired.

In December I got an e-mail that the claim had been refused as my membership had been suspended. I called in to the call centre, was told that this appeared to be incorrect and that the claim would be reconsidered. Last week I again got a letter stating the claim had been refused as my membership had been been suspended.

This is not acceptable. My membership was paid up to the 30th of November and I consider that I am reasonably entitled to have the medical aid's portion (I think it's about R550) of the approximately R2, 000 bill reimbursed to me. Alternatively, they should at least have a reasonable explanation of the 'suspension' of my benefits prior to the termination date.
