Life Healthcare
Two hours unattended in casualty

Health & Medicine

Today 18 February 2013 I brought my 2 year old son into casualty after receiving a phone call from his school saying that he was not well and his temperature is unusually high, instead of calling his pediatrician I decided that it would be quicker for me to take him to the casualty unit at Fourways Life. We arrived at 12:35 and at 14:35 were still waiting to see the doctor. When I went to the nurses station to ask why we were waiting so long I was very nonchalantly told that they were trying to "clear" everyone.

I understand that the hospital works on a priority system but my logic tells me that a toddler with temperature issues would take some sort of priority, or better still have someone come to the waiting room to make everyone aware that there is some or of delay. Today I was made to feel like just another number in the hospitals logbook and not a paying patient.

This is the type of service that you would expect from a state hospital where there are large volumes of patients and a shortage of staff, not a private institution that markets itself as a place where everyone's life is a priority.
I had to leave without seeing a doctor and I don't expect to receive an account.
