I have been prescribed a new anti-cholesetrol drug by a professor/doctor as the generic I have been on for years is no longer good enough. The doctor sent the motivational letter to Discovery Health's chronic department in September of 2012. The authorisation (according to Discovery's own website) was authorised and the website has reported that that the per monthly benefit was 'Unlimited'.
When I went to the pharmacy to fill the prescription I was informed that the benefit didn't even cover a quarter of the cost of the medication, and I need to pay in a per monthly 'levy' of almost R400.
I have proof that the website states 'Unlimited' as the benefit.
When calling the Discovery call center I was passed to a team leader who stated that the website was 'wrong' and that they would never cover the drug fully. In what universe does this happen with a company as large as Discovery? The website is 'wrong'? The Discovery monthly premiums are already, but to fight with them about something like this leaves a VERY bitter taste in the mouth.
I will be contacting both the company representative for our group policy as well as the Ombudsman.
