I have had a long standing relationship with Discovery as my previous employer made it compulsory to use the Discovery medical aid. It has generally been a good experience and I have even left a compliment or two on this very page. However, I went to a new job and switched medical aids a few month ago. I terminated my medical aid effective from the 31st of August with no issues. This past week i receive a call from a debt collector rudely telling me if I don't pay my account I will be blacklisted and asking me why I am not keeping up with my debt. I was shocked at the service but more bemused at what she was saying because I knew nothing of this debt. I hadn't received ANY correspondence from Discovery telling me I owed any money. I asked her to send me proof of this and she never did. I then called the Discovery call centre and I was told I owe about 1900 because I had terminated my medical aid early. How does this make sense? I paid because I don't want my name blacklisted for this. My issue is that I wasn't notified of debt till a debt collector called and the reason for the debt makes no sense to me. This isn't right. I feel ripped off and considering moving my life insurance
