I must pay back R1625???

I joined discovery 6 years ago, ever since I realized how I paid R15000 a year only to receive about R3000 benefits. Well I accepted that this, in 2012 I tried to add my mother as a dependent, my mother had come off prev medical aid Aug, I started application process 1st of October. It took the entire month not to mention I had to send her for a full medical which cost 600 and they said they would pay it back, they didn't because after a month of doing everything they ask I get told about penalties (3 months off medical- their fault) and cancel it all together, now July 2013 I resign from medical aid not being told that I am liable for anything besides 30days cancellation, which I do (if I had known I would have stayed with discovery for the rest of the year and swopped over Jan 2014) But no! no notification of any sort upon cancellation. I get a fone call 3 MONTHS (18th Oct) after I cancel medical aid!!! I'm driving and tell them to send me an email, it says I owe them R1428.00, email didn't look legit, I now get an sms this morning to say I was handed over for R1625.33. UNACCEPTABLE!!! Not a call or email before I'm handed over? my lawyer will be involved! count on it!
