Refused to give back my Depost Money

I signed a 6 months contract to rent a room, after 5 months I unexpectedly had to move out because I lost my job and I could not stay there another month and not do anything with my time, so I gave them a weeks notice. "Steve" the owner has his own rules and stated on His contract that your deposit money will not be refunded if your contract has not expired and if you did not give a months notice stating you are to move out. I pleaded for them to refund my Deposit Money of R2000.00, as I struggled so much to gather that money initially to pay for the deposit. Not forgetting to mention, I lived in a room that was neglected and was not fully refurbished as other rooms when a new tenant moves in - but I never complaint.

Please help me to obtain my deposit money, because I owe it to someone else that helped me to pay for it initially, esp at this point where I lost my job.
