We had the most horrendous stay at De Oude Kasteel guesthouse on Saturday 19 January. There is no air-conditioning and in sweltering heat we were forced to leave the windows open. With no mosquito nets and ceiling fans which didn't work we had no protection against thousands of mosquitoes which attacked us. My young children cried the entire night as they tried to shield themselves from the bites. My 22 month old son had 138 bite welts to his little body with both eyes swollen closed. In addition the beds were alive with ants and who knows what else. There were things crawling on us as we lay in the beds and the sheets were covered in blood stains from the bites. And we have photos to prove it and the blood stained linen. My subsequent demands that we be refunded in full have simply been ignored. There were things broken in the house and the external door bolts were missing meaning that we could not properly secure the property. Unlike other accommodation, NO air-conditioning and NO breakfast included. I am recording our appalling experience in the hope that we may be able to warn anyone else who may be contemplating a stay at De Oude Kasteel.
