Last year I dislocated my kneecap and was admitted to Netcare Blouberg and operated on. The authorisation was obtained from Discovery to have the operation. When i awoke i was told that the damage was substantial and that a graft jacket was used. I paid R4000 and was discharged. I recieved a bill from the hospital showing R14000 for a graft jacket that was rejected by Discovery. I had a motivational letter sent to them and it was rejected again. I tried ex-gratia and it was once again rejected. I then went to the CMS and it was established that the Graft Jacket will not be paid for by Discovery. I then was told that the supplier has discounted the part and i now only owe Netcare Hospital R9000. I hear nothing from the hospital since November last year when i sent them the outcome from the CMS until last week when i recieve a summons for the R9000 graft jacket.
The response from Netcare Blouberg was " the Specialists working in our hospital are all independent practitioners and we don't have any direct control over prosthesis they decide to use during an operation" I was not given any choices and now i am liable for the account. I would like this amount removed from my account.
