All i can say is, if there is any way you can join any other medical aid, do so!! Bankmed is the worst of worse!!
I joined Bankmed when I started at Absa in February 2013 and it has been the worst customer experience that I have ever had in my life, herewith some highlights:
a) It took them 6 weeks to issue me a medical aid number, which means I had to pay out of pocket for everything.
b) My wife required dental procedure (non-cosmetic) of which they were only willing to pay 40% the bill. (She is still in pain as we cannot afford to pay the rest.
c) It is suppose to take them 48-72 hours to respond to email queries. The quickest response we have had was 12 working days!
d) Their call centre staff are rude and arrogant. can never resolve any of your queries.
e) Our medical savings plan is currently finished (within 5 months!!!) due to the fact that they refuse to add my wifes monthly medicine to Chronic medication, which was marked as chronic medication with Discovery. They want me now to go to a physician, which will cost thousands of rands to do bloodtests and consultancy fees.
f) Some of the chronic medication they refuse to recognise as chronic.
