My dad was hospitalised last week Monday the 3rd in Vereeniging Medi-Clinic due to a bloodflow problem in his leg (after having received an authorisation number from Discovery Health). He was discharged the next day after having had an arteriogram (with an auth number from Discovery Health). He was again hospitalised on Monday (10th), upon which he was informed that Discovery is not going to pay for his admission AND THAT THEY HAVE NOW DECIDED THAT THEY ARE ALSO NOT GOING TO PAY FOR THE PREVIOUS ADMISSION (despite an auth number)!!! My brother had to put down a deposit before they would admit him (FOR PAIN CONTROL). Then he received a phonecall this morning saying they would now pay again, then they phoned again saying, OH NO, NOW NOT ANYMORE!!! How ridiculous is this! I am also in the medical field and find this behaviour VERY SERIOUSLY out of line and to the detriment our this patient! Not to say the least, we will seek legal advise. It seems that Discovery is very confused about themselves and their own product. I am terminating my medical aid with this company today and will advise all my colleagues and acquaintances to do the same.
