Phipamed did not submit claim to medical aid

I 've just been made aware by BOULDERSON AND ASSOCIATES lawyers for Phipamed that there is an outstanding amount on my account. I have confirmed with my medical aid that this claim was never submited to them, I am confused as to why this money was not submited to the medical aid. I was never notified by the doctor that the money will not be submited to medical aid or that I should be paying directly for it. The first time I heard about this outstanding amount is through their lawyer, so now I also have to pay lawyer fees on top of the debt. I dont think it is fair to expect this of me as the outstanding money is as a result of their office not submiting the claim through to my medical aid and failure to communicate this to me. I have tried to contact them telephonically without success and they have not responded to my email requesting clarity. The lawyers are unable to provide me with proof that the statement was submited to my medical aid, nor are they able to prove that I was notified of the debt. What should I do on this matter as it is also ruining my clean credit record.
