Bonitas cancels medical aid without prior notice

My retired parents signed up with Bonitas in Nov 2012. They paid the first premium upfront. In Dec 2012 Bonitas deducted 2 payments from their account, but as they paid the first month's premium upfront, they arranged with the bank to refund 1 month's premium. From then until a few days ago Bonitas settled all claims and prescriptions (some of which are chronic as my father is a diabetic). A few days ago they received notification that their medical aid has been cancelled because of overdue premiums. They offered to settle the outstanding amount, but Bonitas were not willing to accept and informed them they had to apply for new membership from scratch! This came as a huge shock, as there was sufficient funds in their account and no one from Bonitas had informed them that they were not receiving their premiums! They also didn't suspect anything because Bonitas settled all their claims and sent them monthly statements. The call centre was totally unsympathetic and not willing to escalate the matter. If Bonitas had informed them timeously, they would have corrected the problem immediately! I urge Bonitas to urgently look into this & reinstate their medical aid immediately
