Apple South Africa
Embarrassing service

Electronics and household app.

I brought my MacBook Pro to iStore in Menlyn, Pretoria. I had an issue with it starting up. The IT technicians could not help. They asked if I would like to pay a R200 fee to send it to 'Core', South Africa's head office for Apple products.

I received a mail a few days later informing me that there is nothing they could do and that they want to replace my HD as well as my battery. Totaling R5500. Of course - forget actually trying to fix it, just replace. Don't fix, sell... I feel this is something QUITE the antithesis of what Apple stands for.

I spoke to an receptionist and any question I asked, she could not answer and simply repeated the 'job sheet' to me, and then stated "we have tried everything possible to fix it". I asked to speak to a technician and she replied: We don't allow that.

2 weeks later, after rejecting the quote, paying R200 for nothing, a family friend and apple enthusiast (NOT an apple IT guru) had a crack at it. 2 days later, he returned the Laptop to me, in perfect working order.

HOW EMBARRASSING it must be for The Core (NOTE: "we have tried everything possible to fix it").

South Africa's TOP LEVEL for Apple? WHAT an embarrassment.
