No after sales service support

I bought a HP dt2000i 2TB external hard drive and unfortunately my ac adaptor has been damaged. The problem is trying to find where I can get one and this is where I have a problem with HP, they have put me through every number you can call at HP and no one can help, first they tell me they don't recognise the serial number I'm giving them or the product number that is on the hard drive is wrong, then they tell me to call their service or repair centers who also don't recognise the serial number or the adapter. The strange thing is the adapter is not an HP adapter but a Ktec adapter which no one seems to stock. Everyone at HP tells me they can't help me, I must call someone else who sends me back to the 1st one. I jhave been calling for 2 days and am ready to throw this thing in the rubbish, but I have so much files that I hadn't backed up that are in the drive.
I will NEVER EVER buy another HP product again. I was actually considering getting an HP laptop but that's never going to happen now.
