I bought a Toyota Corolla 1300 (light blue) from Toyota Dealer in 1997. I bought a Toyota because of the company's reported good reputation, customer care service, reliable vehicles and most of all because their vehicles have a good resell value. The car was so reliable that after 3 years we did not sell the car, but gave it to our student son and we bought another one. However, about 3 years ago we noticed that the paint was peeling off at the rear of the car. We contacted Toyota but got no response. We took it to a Toyota accredited Body Works Shop (they gave us a list to choose from) and the Body Shop confirmed that it was a factory paint error and that they have seen other Toyota Corolla 1300's of the same year, with exactly the same rear end paint problem. There is no rust but only the top coloured paint does not seem to be sticking to the undercoat. Even washing the car has been a problem. The car has never been in an accident and is in excellent condition otherwise. First Toyota responded and asked what our expectations are: We replied they should solve the problem.. Now they are ignoring all our emails.
I think they should at least agree to respray the rear end of the car.
