Renault South Africa
Faulty diagnosis & pricing. Will not responsibilit

Cars & Transport

I took my car in for a cluster repair - which happens to be inherently defective in the Renault Scenic. They quoted me R1125.98, which I paid up front. When collecting the car, they demanded a further R464.25 which they could not explain. The front desk premised to clarify this and revert to me. Since then, the only time I ever hear from them is when they call my brother with threats of legal action. Each time, I call them back and I speak to the same person, who keeps promising to revert to me.

I also gave them my car to repair a noise akin to a bad starter. They diagnosed the timing belt. I made it clear that I do not want a timing belt unless they are sure that it would resolve the noise - I could not understand that, not for an intermittent noise anyway.

When this failed to resolve the problem, the same person who did the first diagnosis and the timing belt job did not hesitate to diagnose the phase shifter pulley, which he was minutes away from when replacing the timing belt. Yet they charge me a further R3176.53 for the pulley.

I think they are not entitled to any more money for the cluster repair. They are also only entitled to four hours labour and spares for the pulley
