Misrepresentation of insurance costs

I elected the most comprehensive insurance on offer, and twice it was confirmed verbally to me that the maximum amount that I could ever be charged by Europcar would be R2 400. During our trip, the side panel of the vehicle suffered minor damage. We pointed this out when we handed in the car and they informed us that they would be in contact with us. Today I was notified by the bank that over R3600 had been deducted from my credit card. This is not the first charge against my card since the booking. I have received absolutely no communication from Europcar, despite being promised, not even an invoice detailing the original booking, never mind one for the amounts subsequently being charged to my credit card. Attempts at resolving this have been completely unsuccessful. Effectively the excess is just one of the many costs charged in the event of damage to a car. This despite the fact that these costs would typically be covered by insurance in any other case (e.g. my car/my insurance) This is completely dishonest & misrepresented. The lack of due process, courtesy & integrity leads me to advise any sensible person to keep as far from this company when renting a vehicle as possible
