Europcar ripped me off my deposit

I make an online booking for a car from Europcar in December and the quote I got was for R 1958.64.
When I went to collect the car, the Europcar employee told me there is a deposit of R5000 and that amount would be reimbursed on return of the car. She also said the reason for the deposit payment was because I was paying with my debit card.
The amount taken off my card was R 7573. I returned the car in good condition.
After about 2 weeks I get an invoice that states I was charged R5091.29. There were all these outrageous insurance costs that I was charged.
Instead of being refunded R5000, I was only refunded R 2400.
When I contacted Europcar, the manager said that if I could demonstrate that my insurance would cover this, cost, they would give me full refund.
At no given time during the online booking or at Europcar desk was I informed that there would be additional charges that would be taken from my deposit. If I was told of these charges I would not have taken their car.
I am appalled by Europcar and feel ripped off by them.
