Nissan South Africa
Faulty whining drum brakes

Cars & Transport

I bought my Nissan Micra brand new from the Centurion dealership. Overall, I am very happy with the car, except for one major issue with the drum brakes. The car now has 32000 km on the clock, but since 2500 km, the drum brakes have been whining LOUDLY almost always when I gently touch the brake pedals to slow down, mostly at a slow speed. Initially, the dealership said they could not find the problem. Then at about 20000 km they admitted there was a problem and sprayed some lubricant onto the brakes which resolved the problem for about 1000 km. The other day I took it back to the dealership to get looked at again and to have the lubricant reapplied. The workshop manager, Wessie admitted the brake issue was a problem with quite a few vehicles, but Nissan SA did not acknowledge there was a problem and therefore would not cover any costs as part of the warranty. Wessie also said because of this, they will no longer be applying the brake lubricant for customers free of charge because Nissan SA refused to reimburse them. How can many vehicles be affected by this problem and Nissan SA just turns a blind eye. I will never purchase a Nissan again and dissuade anyone from doing so either.
