Cam belt never changed

I have been servicing my car at VW the Glen for the past 4 year. Trough out the all these services my cam belt was never changed when it reached "the replacement " time. So basically no cam belt change between 80 000-100 000., no change was done at 180 000 either. Eventually the cam belt snapped a few months after the 180 000 service was done!!!

Upon querying how is it possible that the service guide was not followed. The Service Manager informed me that VW relies on a system (website)... where they input a VIN number and the system would indicated what work needs to be done for that particular service! It just happened that my VIN number had nothing on cam belt change the entire time I have been taking my car for a service. I find this hard to believe.

VW has the service history on the car and they are experts. Surely the Technicians should have picked this up.
