JOHN DEERE V BELT IN WRONG PACKAGING - WON'T REPLA

My husband bought a John Deere V Belt at Senwes Welkom for a spare for the Generator for our store. The packaging shows the number that my husband wanted R500277. So he put it away for a spare. The number was correct and that is what he thought he bought. When he needed it though the belt was too big as the number of the belt inside the packaging (brand new) shows L111685 on the belt itself. He paid R388.50 on 31/08/2011 for it. They refuse to exchange it even when we have the invoice and the brand new belt with it's original packaging still in perfect condition. They said it is too long ago. He did not check the belt inside the packaging as the packaging clearly stated the number that he wanted and he put it away for when needed. As I said he bought it for a spare. There was no need to check the belt inside. It was a mistake on their side and the manager also was not very friendly nevertheless helpful. This is really bad service!
