Dekra Automotive
Brakes shot after being passesd by AA tech test

Cars & Transport

On 31 May a Chevrolet Captiva which I was considering buying went to Strand Dekra branch. I paid R1463 for a full technical inspection. When I picked up the car the examiner went through everything with me.
On the basis of the report I decided to purchase the car. We took delivery of the vehicle on the 12th June. On the 13th June I noticed that the brakes were grinding under braking. I was sure it was most probably a bit of grit in the brakes as the technical examiner said the discs and brakes were good - all boxes ticked on the inspection form. I took the car to the agents for them to have a look. I was told that the front discs and pads had to be replaced as they were totally worn at a cost of R1972.25. If I had known that this had to be done I would have reduced the purchase price by R1972.25. An technician should have easily seen this. After numerous emails with no response I was eventually advise by Mr Magerman that I should bring the discs and pads to them for an inspection. Very convenient that he took 12 days to come back to me. Maybe he knew by that time the parts would no longer be available. I asked him to please contact the agents to speak to them but he never bothered
