Just drop the goods at the door and run when late

I was contacted telephonically on Monday 10 June 2013 to say that there was a package for me and would I be able to accept it the next day, Tuesday 11 June 2013. I said yes, but that I would only be available until mid day, to which the response was that this was not a problem. All my details were confirmed and I awaited the package. On Tuesday I waited until just after 12:30pm, but I still did not receive the package or a telephone call. I then left, and returned home today Monday 17 June to find the package lying in front of my door.

What would have happened if I had ordered a valuable package?

This is really shockingly bad service. Firstly not having the decency to keep time and then to just leave a package and carry on without even a phone call to apologise for the poor service or even to find out if it is ok to drop the package else where
