Vehicle confirmed but not available

On Wednesday evening I realised that I needed a bakkie the next day and used Europcar's website to book this vehicle at short notice. Europcar confirmed the booking for the next morning, to be collected at their Pretoria branch in Hatfield. On arrival I was told that the vehicle they had confirmed was not available and was still at their depot in Johannesburg. They were also unable to tell me when it would be available. I understand that I booked at short notice but why confirm a vehicle if it is not available?
