On 22 Feb my son had an accident with a vehicle insured on my name. The vehicle was insured for R11900. When I reported the accident the person on the other side did not tell me that the tow in would not cost me a sent. I placed the vehicle on a trailer and took it to Santam. The person there told me that Santam Pays him R3500 to tow a vehicle, money that I saved them. When the report came the vehicle had a value of R12000 but apparently is only worth R10400. R3000 access was deducted (no problem) leaving me with R7400 (not acceptable). The rent of the trailer cost me around R500, Fuel of around R120 and 3 hours wasted. Had I been told the tow in is for free, I would not have wasted the time and money. I paid insurance money on a vehicle of R11900, not R10400! I will thus accept R11900 - R3000 R620 = R9520 or R9000. The second problem I sit with is that Santam cancelled my policy on house content and a caravan without me giving them instructions to do so. This is pathetic service and for this reason I have cancelled all other insured items for end of March. Should we not be able to solve the problem the Ombudsman will be the one to decide. a Client for 30 years but not any more.
