Misleading sales - consultant

Short-term insurance policy for car, household and all risks. On inception of the policy I advised the consultant that I have lots of jewellery as well as my daughter. Despite this he advised that it does not matter, if I do claim, my claim would be settled. I recently travelled overseas and on my return, my hand luggage was stollen at the airport containing my jewellery as well as my daughter's, I also had new jackets and hair curler which was bought in the States as well as shoes which I paid in dollars. On lodging my claim, I was advised that I was only covered for a certain amount and that there was nothing that they could do. Why am I paying insurance? I also addressed an email to one Trevor Steele at Alexander Forbes but to date had no response from hin.
