LACK OF RESPECT FOR PRIVACY

I booked flights yesterday online for an upcoming trip through a popular travel site.

Today I received a phone call today from a call centre agent at Standard Bank. After greeting me, he jumped straight into asking me to confirm my travel purchase and got me to confirm the web address where I bought my ticket and then went onto question me about the location of my trip.

The only reason I bothered to get this far into divulging details of my purchase was because I thought it could be a random check due to unusual card activity.

However, it was not the case at all. It was not for my benefit or to protect me from transactions.

The telesales agent was using details of my PERSONAL purchase to sell me more I don't need.

How DARE Standard Bank ABUSE their access to my transactions to have call centre agents contact me and dig into details of my purchases? This information is private and confidential and I do not appreciate being questioned on my transactions.

No respect for privacy or boundaries. You will use anything you can as an "in" for unsolicited calls.

I am looking to move to a new bank.
