I have been banking with ABSA for years and had no problem, until my gym contract expired but they still kept debiting my account. I went to every ABSA in my area to try and stop this payment as they would debit random amounts like R700 on the 12th of the month. ABSA kept on telling me that there is nothing they can do which is why I put every possible stop payment on these debit orders and reversed those payments that went through, I phoned the ABSA customer care service many times and this has been a problem for over a year.
All other payments that need to go through my account are always hassle free and I always have money in my account when payments need to be deducted. The last two months the gym tried to debit money on dates when there were no funds left, where the bank sent me two letters stating that I am dishonoured for bad payment and deducted R335 to pay towards the debit order. I phoned ABSA and said this is not my fault, I don't know when or why this money will be deducted. This month I received another letter stating that I am dishonoured and they deducted R600 for Admin fees on a situation that I asked help with and is out of my hands. Why is this allowed?
