Old Mutual
Non payment of insurance on death to beneficiary

Business & Finance

My daughter has just lost her husband tragically at the age of 44. He had a life policy WITH Old Mutual, thinking that it would cover her immediate concerns whilst the estate was being finalised.

Firstly they lost or misplaced all the paper work that was sent to them which is stressful at best for anyone, to have to do everything twice when you are still in shock and grieving the lost of a partner, father, friend.

Secondly why do they now come with the nonsense that they have to contact next of kin, ie. children to find out if he /she has a claim on the policy (which incidently is not a large amount of money at all in these times).

If I have a policy and nominate a beneficiary I do it for a reason I WANT MY BENEFICIARY AND ONLY MY BENEFICIARY getting what I have stipulated and paid for over the years, I also expect them to be paid out timeously after my death directly, not through lawyers what ever AND NOT MONTHS LATER.

My daughter has now had to resort to more expense she cannot afford to get lawyers to try and get THE OLD MUTUAL to honour the policy, she had nominated lawyers to assist her with the winding up of the estate- THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.
