Fiance handed over without proof

Exactly the same happened to my fiance than what happened to Jean Jordaan!
He settled his accounts in full at Absa, just to receive a combined summons from Browne Brodie Attorneys on 05/12/2013. One was a savings account and the other was a cheque account. I have the proof of payments to Absa directly as well as to different attorney account numbers. I cannot trace down all as Absa doesn't want to tell me who's account number belongs to what attorney. I already forwarded all correspondence we had with the debt collector, Irene Pillay from Grantley Morris & Associates cc, to our lawyer. Absa is losing face with this!
