Unethical Business Practice

My boyfriend & I recently applied for a home loan through FNB. It was brought to our attention by FNB that there was a default on his credit profile. This came as a huge surprise to us as he owed no credit providers money. After determining where the default came from we contacted the relevant credit bureaus and had the default removed from the profile within 48 hours (removed as if it never existed because it shouldn't have). The default was illegally placed on his profile by a company who he was at no stage indebted to. FNB later approved our bond but proceeded to add a clause stating they need a debt settlement letter from the people who illegally placed the default. I explained to FNB several times that it had been removed from his profile as if it never existed as it was illegally placed there however they refuse to remove the clause. How unethical! His credit profile is 100% clear yet they insist on this clause. How is this acceptable business practice?
