My sister travels between SA and UK extensively. On her last trip here she opened up a Capitec account to allow her to transact in South Africa while she plans for an upcoming wedding in SA.

She's now in the UK and trying to buy items on the Internet and now she's been told that her card hasn't been enabled for online purchases. At no stage, ever, during the consultation when we opened the account was she informed that the bank requires special instructions to enable online purchases. This is also something that has never required separate instruction at other banks.

She called the helpdesk from the UK and they promised to assist. Today an SMS was receiving saying that Capitec can't assist via the helpdesk because she needs to go into the branch to resolve.

Really? So she's in the UK, she can't buy a ticket back because her card doesn't work, but she needs to come back to South Africa and visit a branch before this is fixed?

This account is getting closed as soon as she comes back. What a pathetic attitude.
