I wanted to open a small business account and FNB was recommended. When contacted I explained to them that I do not have a branch in my town but was explicitly told that I can do everything telephonically and via e-mail. When I received my cards with the courier I tried to do online banking only to be told by FNB customer service that I need to go into a branch to activate. I explained the situation and they said that they will then do it without me going to a branch and even gave me a reference number - this was beginning Dec 2012. Now when I tried to do online banking again I was told that it has not been activated and that I need to go to a branch. When they want your business they promise you the moon and the stars but it is all!!! Now I can't even close the stupid account unless I go to a branch. I will never ever bank with FNB again they are the worst ever. I have a two friends with the exact same experience who also tried to do the same in December and was told exactly what I was only to find it it cannot be done!!!
