No help from the bank when my bank card was declin

I wanted to rent a car using my debit card but the transaction was declined by the bank. I called the bank's service centre to no avail and ultimately walked into the boulders branch where ignorant staff welcomed me. I was told they could not increase the limit on my card as I had an old card and was supposed to have applied for a new one. How in the world was I to know that?? I was greattly inconvenienced by this and ended up missing an important meeting just because the bank did not do its job. The solution they offered was to say use a credit card or someone else's cheque account! what sort of nonsense is that?? I want to use my money in my account!!
