Standard Bank
No notification of card being blocked

Business & Finance

I opened up a Standard Bank cheque account and received my card the 22/11/2013. I tried swiping my card but it was declined. Knowing I had money in my account I went into the Wynberg branch and they advised me there is no problem. I tried swiping again numerous occasions only for it to be declined again. Again I went into the branch and they advised that the chip on my card is a problem.

I called Std Bank card division and customer service advised there is a block on my card but couldn't say why. They then transferred me to collections, legal etc. Finally someone could assist me after being transferred 4 times and said that the reason for the block is because of an old account I had with Std Bank. And the block was added the day I received my card. I now need to go into the bank again and a consultant needs to send an email to have it removed. After 24 hours will I be able to swipe my card.

I am really annoyed with Std Bank because of the inconvenience they have caused me. And why add a block to a new card without checking your facts first or advising me?

This account has caused me a lot of problems and I am considering closing this account and going back to Capitec.
