Insurance not paying out

Hi I purchased a Sa warranties plan via Gm when I bought my car in May. I had a breakdown and I was advised that they will not cover the whole amount for repairs. How am I to know what is not covered?
Now I have to pay about R 6000 . What is the reason of paying for a warranty insurance at the beginning???
